Commemorative gift box with two vials of insulin, the first batch from 1922 and one from 1982. "8 oktober 1982 Op deze historische dag werd de eerste flacon biosynthetische menselijke insuline overhandigd aan de Diabetes Vereniging Nederland. Biosynthentische menselijke insuline is het eerste produkt dat werd vervaardigd met behulp van de R-DNA techniek voor gebruik bij de mens. Tevens werd een van de originele flacons insuline overhandigd die vervaardigd werd in het jaar 1922. Deze dag markeert een betrokkenheid gedurende 60 jaar bij behandeling van diabetes mellitis. Namens Eli Lilly and Company vond de overhandiging plaats door Dr. Cornelius Pettinga uit Indianapolis, Indiana."

Cornelius Pettinga gifted a small box to the Diabetes Vereniging Nederland (Dutch Diabetes Association). The box and doctor came over from Indianapolis, Indiana, and contains two vials of insulin. The box was gifted to celebrate sixty years of diabetes treatment, but was this really something worth celebrating?
