Sarotti Chocolate Advert

The three figurines you see were created in 1919, and soon became part of Sarotti’s branding. Set within the social context of 20th century colonialism, chocolate was associated with its “exotic” origin in the colonies of the European powers. Drawing on this association, Sarotti’s racialized figurines depicting African “natives” were used to promote its chocolates.
