The statue

The terracotta figure is part of a series of Djenné terracotta figures which have been illicitly excavated and sold on the black market. Because of this provenance, it is very difficult to put them in their right (archaeological) context.

However, by linking them with the West African oral history tradition, as well as with examinations from a medical perspective, investigators have tried to reconstruct the story­_Tribal Art­_, Spring 2015.
