World History for International Studies
Discover the stories that bring World History to life.
Leiden University, BA International Studies
Welcome to our zone! Here you will find a growing collection of things connected to the handbook World History for International Studies (Leiden University Press, 2022). This handbook is the key text for the World History course taught at the BA International Studies at Leiden University. The zone reflects a desire to increase innovation in our teaching and to provide an exciting resource for use in the classroom. Our approach to World History focuses on exchanges, networks, and movement of ideas, peoples, and things across the globe. Our authors have selected key sources which help support their chapters and which illuminate particular themes in World History such as communication, identity, and modernity. In this zone you will find, among others, the story of a traveling cockatoo, a puzzling pagoda, and a controversial ribbon.
The handbook is available through open access so you can always read more about the context of the source that has captured your attention. In the future, this zone will continue to grow. Our work in the classroom with the BA International Studies students at Leiden will hopefully result in many more stories and creative connections between sources, which will provide an engaging route into the broader themes of World History.
