Leiden University without hurdles
Stories by staff and students
Access & Support Platform
Diversity and inclusion are core themes of the academic world today. In this light, Leiden University tries to supports staff and students should they face physical or mental challenges. An inclusive environment, however, does not only entail being supported, but also being heard. In this zone different voices from different perspectives will be given the floor.
The stories in this zone are different in nature. Some stories such as ‘Rowing Boat for Rowing Blind’ will be inspiring for others in creating an inclusive student association. Other stories, such as ‘the visual fire alarm’ will be painful, presenting a side that has not been shown before. With these stories we aim to open the conversation within Leiden University and elsewhere. We want to raise awareness on what it means to experience physical or mental challenges in your academic career. We also want to highlight the strengths and superpowers that often go hand in hand with the challenge.
This project is a collaboration between Things That Talk and the Access and Support Platform of Leiden University. The Access and Support Platform aims at creating a safe space for students and staff members. This project is set up with the help of the JEDI fund of the faculty of Humanities at Leiden University.
