Storyline
Chocolate Cup Set
Reflecting the sophisticated style and technique of English porcelain in the late eighteenth century, this set of chocolate cups was produced in glazed porcelain by an undetermined English factory. Enclosed by all those golden rosettes, the pattern glittering in the middle of the saucers literally reflects a very impressive story of the time. The pattern is composed of the initials of two women, Eleanor Butler and Sarah Ponsonby, who lived together intimately in Llangollen for over five decades. With this, the set commemorates the remarkable relationship and unconventional lives of the ‘Ladies of Llangollen’.
