Imitating a bed

The very detailed shot of the weaving, as gorgeous as it is, draws attention away from what makes this object so misleading. The craftsman who made this was no weaver or reed braider, but an artist who copied reality in clay.

The object is thus almost an exact scale model of a piece of furniture that looked like this in ancient Mesopotamia: a bed.
