This book is called Gerhard Rohlfs: Lebensbild eines Afrikaforschers, written by Konrad Guenther and published in 1912. Inside we find several newspaper clippings on one page (fig. 3), and photographs and letters on another (fig. 4).

The additions Rudolph Said-Ruete made to his books are most often connected to the content of the text on the page where they are glued, or to the mention of a certain person or event.

In this case, the newspaper clippings are connected to Eugene d’Albert (1864-1932), a Scottish-born German composer and pianist. They are probably added on this page in connection to the text on music: ‘...... als “Lieblingsschüler Liszts” in die Welt zu ziehen.’

The letter included in the book is written by Lony Rohlfs to ‘mein lieber Ruete’ (Wiesbaden, 11.5.11). Lony Rohlfs was the wife of Gerhard Rohlfs (1831-1896), a famous German adventurer and explorer of Africa, and the subject of this book. The photographs on the same page are of Gerhard Rohlfs and his family in Rudelsburg from 1888 and 1893.
