Preventative Action

“Be cautious!” and “Don’t leave your drink unattended!” are sentences women are too familiar with in relation to drink spiking. As previously mentioned, such phrases are anything but helpful. Due to the failure of nightclubs to provide precautions, products have been developed that either protect (fig. 1) or identify (fig. 2) substances in drinks. It is thus clear that a basic cup of water can be interpreted as a threat as well as turned into a treat. It is inescapable for women, while men often do not even consider covering their drink.
