Deodorant has been around for quite a while. The first commercial deodorant came onto the market in 1888 (fig 1).The first modern deodorant was named “Mum”, meaning “to keep silent”. It was developed in Philadelphia with zinc compound being its active ingredient. But until the early 1960s when the first aerosol deodorant entered the marketplace,The first aerosol deodorant, Right Guard, was developed by Gillette. It came onto the market in 1960 and still exists today. deodorant was mostly rubbed or rolled on the skin instead of sprayed. It is a popular product that comes in many forms and is available all over the world. Something you can easily chuck into a handbag. It is precisely because of this that deodorant, a regular item within hand’s reach, can mean something different to women.
