Gender-based violence is a huge problem

Violence against women occurs everywhere - almost certainly in your area as well. We are not talking about the occasional slap, but about repeated severe and intentional violence. These abstract numbers are about real women. You encounter the victims daily: in the supermarket, in the office, or at home on the couch next to you.

• 45% of women have experienced physical or sexual violence after the age of 15.
• In 25% of those cases, the perpetrator is the victim's partner or ex-partner.
• 20% of Dutch women have been victims of sexual violence before the age of 15.
• 10% of Dutch women have experienced rape.
• 51% of women in the Netherlands have avoided situations or environments in the past year for fear of physical or sexual violence.
