Storyline
Advertising with meaning
We still regularly see a certain advertising banner, also known as a memorial cloth, from the Leidsche Katoenmaatschappij in various textile collections. What makes this printed cotton cloth so special is that it offers us insight into a certain zeitgeist. Although the cloth was made in Leiden in 1918, the printed illustration, also known as an emblema, is much older. The accompanying text is aimed at potential customers of that time. It is a cry for help to keep this once proud Dutch industry alive in difficult times.
