Step 14 of 14

The end is nigh

In order to keep production going, this advertising banner invites potential customers to visit the factory. The dire situation in the cotton factory is made clear in the strong persuasive message of the printed text in letter form. As is written, it was important to keep the factory in operation and to provide work for the workers. If not, they would probably be forced to shut down the business and leave the art of cotton printing to foreign competitors. These attempts to keep the company alive were to no avail in the end. In 1934 the Leidsche Katoenmaatschappij was forced to shut down, and less than two years later the factory buildings in Leiden were demolished.
