Shɔ́ta

The visual appearance of the hair and the t-shirt are bordí, because they show relatively larger, irregular patches of colors and shapes; the pattern on the aloe vera and the motif on the blue fabric are zargí, because they show a pattern made by smaller and more regular spots or shapes. Now, while the cow is munching on the grass, and you are maybe still digesting the boundaries between bordí and zargí, it’s time to introduce yet another coat: shɔ́ta

From a Euro-Anglo perspective, we would be tempted to say that the term shɔ́ta refers to “stripes”. Striped clothes and blankets are in fact described as shɔ́ta; the alternation of brass and copper bracelets on somebody's arm, or a striped body painting motif is also labeled shɔ́ta in Hamar. However, a sky with patches of clouds is also called shɔ́ta.
