Storyline

Almost 100 Years of the Zuiderkwartier Playground

Complaining about young people is easy, but the members of Speeltuinvereniging Zuiderkwartier (playground association) did not want to complain. They wanted to act. As such, in 1931, the association decided to build a playground for children to release their energy. The playground is still there, but times have changed.

It seems so obvious: a playground in a city. However, this story shows that playgrounds do not simply come to be. Many adults cannot imagine their childhood without a playground. In the interest of children’s wellbeing, the board of the Zuiderkwartier playground finds it important that playgrounds continue to exist. This story looks back at the history of the playground and the association and also looks towards the future.
