The date of her death

Martha died on the 10th of Thoth, the first month of the Coptic (Egyptian) calendar, but the text does not tell us the year, which is common in Coptic epitaphs.

However, from the script and the formulae used in the text, it seems likely that the stone dates from about the eighth century. The text ends with the usual formula that “she may rest in the peace of God”. The text then ends with the word Amen in a strange spelling, ⲁⲁⲙⲏⲛ with a double ⲁⲁ.
