A falcon, human eye, and crouching figure
The hieroglyphs spell out the names and titles of these gods. Notice how the hieroglyphs contain images of living beings or other clearly recognizable images. For instance, you can recognize a falcon, a human eye and a crouching figure with a long beard. Those images are depicted in different directions that coincide with the orientation of the larger figures of the gods they belong to. Thus, by looking at the orientation, we can see where we start reading the texts. Hieroglyphs can be flipped without changing their meaning.
The text with Re-Horus starts with the sign of the falcon crowned with a solar disc. We read the column from right to left and from the top to the bottom. It reads: Re-Horus of the double horizon (Re-Harakhty), the great god, the living (god) of the Ennead.
The text with Osiris starts with the eye and is read from left to right: Osiris, the foremost of the West
Let’s move on to read some of the other labels…
