Stela AP 59
Sandstone stela of the ancient Egyptian High Priest of Amun, Roma. Its dimensions are 88 x 61 x 8 cm, it weighs ca. 100 kg and dates back to around 1200 BCE.
This stela is inscribed with hieroglyphs surrounding the images of gods and people. The signs follow the figures’ orientation exactly, which helps when we want to read them. Hieroglyphs are also used in the iconography of gods, which appears in several places in this stela. Provenance: presumably Thebes (Luxor), purchased in 1828 from the collection of Giovanni Anastasi.
