What script is this?
The Leiden examples must be approximately the same age as the Cairo ones, and perhaps they are also from Helwan. The type of writing is the same in all cases. You might notice that the signs look a little like Egyptian hieroglyphs, but not quite.
This script is an early form of hieratic, a cursive script derived from Egyptian hieroglyphs. The text is very brief. Let us now look at what is written…
