Until now, we have mostly looked at symbolic meanings, but this pectoral was of course an object with a purpose that belonged to a real person. So let’s find out more about the practical aspects while looking at the pectoral from the other side.

This piece of jewelry was made of precious materials fit for a princess. It belonged to Princess Sithathoryunet, who lived during the Middle Kingdom. It was found in a niche in her underground tomb. Because her tomb was found next to the pyramid of Senwosret II, it is speculated that she was his daughter. You can see the location on the map in Figure 5.

The golden pectoral is inlaid with 372 pieces of very carefully cut semiprecious stones. The necklace also consists of beads of gold and semiprecious stones. Now that we have looked at the symbolic details and the more practical aspects, it is time to end this tour with a look at the complete picture.
