Trash versus Treasure

The body of a fish-shaped container consists of polyethene (Type 1: PE), while the cap is made of polypropylene (Type 5: PP). Theoretically, the sauce bottles are recyclable, but practically they are not, as both parts need to be recycled separately from each other. In addition, the size of the fish also creates problems as they are too small for standard plastic shredding machines. In Hong Kong, eight types of recyclables are collected, among which plastic. For more information on this, see [Wastereduction.gov.hk]((https://www.wastereduction.gov.hk/en/assistancewizard/recyc_note.htm) and Plasticfreeseas.org Seven types of plastics can be recycled, but as statistics of 2016 show, only 7% of all plastics are in fact recycled in Hong Kong. Other plastic waste is thrown into landfills where it takes up 21% of the overall space.See on website of Recycling Fund

Another way of “recycling” plastic garbage is by reusing trash found on Hong Kong’s beaches for the creation of new objects. See, for example, the work by Studio Florian and Christine in this video.Their website
