Holes

The shield is rather thin and would therefore be impractical to use in battle. These holes do indicate that the shield was originally attached to another material, probably a wooden shield.

Nonetheless, the elaborate decoration shows that the shield was more likely used as an elite object intended to be showcased rather than used in battle. There is no indication whatsoever that the shield was used in battle.
