From realism to fantasy
The baby-woman, with her prominent fat belly that might suggest a desired pregnancy, does not look at the man whom she desires. Instead, her eyes go upwards, as if in a dream.
What makes this image so bizarre, and for me, extraordinarily fantastic, is the way she stretches out her arm, and what she is holding in her hand. Realistically speaking, she is grabbing the man’s coat, that central object in the story. Her hand clutches it, with more force than is necessary for a bit of textile. However, the way the part of the coat that she grabs is depicted in a strange manner; with details that change from realism to fantasy...
