Seonjajang, the fan maker

In the video below you can see a Seonjajang, a master who still creates paper fans. He uses the materials and tools that were always used, and this process is beautifully shown in the video.

To make the paper fans, this master / craftsman uses bamboo and hanji, hand made traditional Korean paper. The bamboo is made into the exact same size to hold the paper in between, which will be glued on after the bamboo has been tied together and dried for approximately one week.

By making the fans, the Seonjajang continues an ancient craft which hopefully will be passed on for many generations to come.
