Cooking machine
Going abroad to a foreign country and living on your own is quite a leap for most people. You may thus decide to bring many essential things. A suitcase is usually filled with clothing, a laptop, perhaps a book or two, and other essentials that fit within the weight limit that the airlines set for their customers.
The owner of this Joyoung cooking machine made a decision not many would make: transporting a cooking machine weighing roughly 7 kilograms to the Netherlands. Why did the owner do this? Well, such a cooking machine comes in very handy, especially when you have little experience with cooking.
“I did not learn how to cook at home. My parents made food for me every day, and when I went to university I just ate in the canteens, always outside. That’s normal in China.”
What do we have here then? An actual thing that talks! This object is an advanced cooking machine which was bought in China and comes with spoken support.
Since the object was brought to the Netherlands from China, it only has Chinese recipes. That is, however, not that big of a problem for someone who was born and raised in China. Not all the required ingredients are as easily accessible, but most ingredients can be found here. Otherwise, there’s always a different recipe to choose from, as the cooking machine offers plenty of options.
The machine comes with pre-made recipes which it literally tells you to follow. You are then expected to cut up the ingredients, put them in and press the start button. It really guides you through the cooking process. Nowadays, more and more things are becoming automated. When the washing machine was invented, it gave people the possibility to make a machine wash their laundry for them. No longer did people have to handwash laundry. Other machines were also invented, such as a dishwasher, to make lives easier.
For the owner, it was one of the most useful objects brought from China. However, after living here for some time, the object has lost its use after learning how to cook by hand. The machine is thus no longer needed, and that comes as a blessing.
“The machine is pretty handy, but the food is actually not very nice. It does not taste very good. I am using it less and less nowadays, just every now and then I will use it to make a quick meal.”
She will be here for another three years and is certain that it is simply better to cook yourself.
