Osiris-Ptah-Sokar

In the upper part of the stela, Ipu gives offerings to the god Osiris-Ptah-Sokar. This manifestation of Osiris was mostly worshipped in the Memphite area – southwest of modern Cairo.See H. D. Schneider, Beeldhouwkunst in het land van de farao’s (Amsterdam, 1992), 78. In the text, Ipu asks for a beautiful burial in the west of Memphis. This area is currently known as Saqqara, the necropolis of Memphis. It is therefore very plausible that this stela originally stood in Saqqara.
