Wiebke Pandikow

Wiebke Pandikow, a German jewelry artist living and working in Helsinki, has developed a special technique to merge plastic bags and organic objects found in nature into complex jewelry items. Since 2014, she has been working with two kinds of electric irons and baking paper to manually transform plastic garbage into material for her works, a process that she describes as “very much grounded in the diligence and patience of traditional craftwork.”

In pieces such as Brooch: Accumulation Concave of 2017, which is made from recycled plastic bags, driftwood and gravel, she merges the ‘de-faced’ urban plastic waste that litters all global metropoles without distinction, with local items such as driftwood found on Finnish coasts.
