Before we go to the baby in Guanyin’s arms, let us first acknowledge Dragon Daughter (Chinese: Longnü), the acolyte of Guanyin, is standing beside her and dragons surround the bottom of the lotus chair. She is the eight-year-old daughter of the Dragon King, and is considered to be the acolyte of Guanyin. She is wise and understands the root activities and deeds of living beings. She mastered the dharanis (Buddhist chants which bodhisattvas use to achieve their salvation), entered into a state of deep meditation, and reached the level of no regression. She is kind, compassionate, benevolent, yielding and capable of attaining bodhi.[cf]
