During Valentine’s Day in Japan, there are two distinct ways of giving chocolate. Obligatory chocolates or giri choco, and true feelings chocolates or honmei choco (本命チョコ). True feelings chocolates are generally more dressed up, expensive or even homemade. These are given to desired partners, boyfriends and husbands, while obligatory chocolates are given to male coworkers and other men the giver has no romantic attachment to.
