When you take a closer look at Van Braam Houckgeest’s chair, it is interesting to see that the chair is neatly decorated with rosettes. Furniture restaurator Wees:

Flowery designs were often put on chairs at this time. This chair’s leg resembles a design that, according to this guide, was popular in 1775. Odds are that this leg, decorated with ornaments called ‘cannelures’, was depicted on a few of the drawings Van Braam Houckgeest brought with him. They were very popular at the time, and you could see them on almost all Louis XVI furniture.[Cf. Forrest; Atterbury & Bos 1997]
