Work attire
My work attire consists of, amongst other things, hand warmers and an eyepatch; basically, I am the world’s comfiest pirate. I wear the eye patch to help with my double vision. I have a relatively rare eye condition, Graves Orbitopathy, which is a pain in the rear when looking at a screen (or anything else for that matter).
Last Christmas, my colleagues and I were given the opportunity to pick a few things we liked from the Feelingz website. I got an escape room game, a Dille & Kamille gift card for my mom, and a pair of hand warmers to keep my hands from going numb while typing. I can wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone with a circulation problem, or if you suffer from cold hands.
My work attire allows me to do my job more comfortably. My work brings me fulfillment and my colleagues are a joy to work with. I am grateful to the Honours Academy for implicitly asking its employees ‘What is of use to you/do you need?’. In my opinion, every employer should regularly ask their employees questions like these.
The same goes for matters relating to (people with a) disability. For heaven’s sake, ask the people who have firsthand experience what they need and invest in realizing their requirements. Make it common practice to ask about and act upon people’s needs, disability or not. In the long run, this will benefit all of us.
