Donato Bramante!
In the end, Renaissance medals conveyed faces of power very much like the ancient Roman coins did. The medal was a powerful vehicle for communicating images of popes, cardinals, and occasionally even artists. At the same time, this visual medium was very innovative, depicting, for example, naked busts, future building plans connected to individual artists, and reverse legends.
Although these medals were attempting to imitate ancient Roman coins in the spirit of the Italian Renaissance, they ended up creating an entirely new artistic phenomenon in its own right.
