Persian cloth and Ikea panda plushie

A Persian cloth and a panda plushie , have little in common, but can both be found in the house of a Chinese PhD student in the Netherlands. The Persian cloth is being used as a tablecloth, and the small Ikea panda plushie as decoration in her home. Besides being beautiful objects, what do they tell us about their owner?
