From fan to student
Everyone agrees that being a teenager isn’t easy. It’s when you really develop who you are, which comes with many ups and downs. For me, during one of these downs I started to browse Youtube for some distraction and found the song “Not Today” by BTS. A few months later I bought my first album, and a few years later my room had been transformed into a K-pop collection.
While I had always been interested in different cultures, especially Asian culture, K-pop for me opened the door to a whole new world. It changed my perspectives on cultures around the world and I learned to accept that things that seem “different”, aren’t by definition bad. However, I also had to learn that I don’t need to be ashamed of liking something, or of collecting pictures and plushies of K-pop idols. Many people made, and still make fun of me for liking “music that you can’t even understand” or “boys that don’t know you exist.” But K-pop is so much more than that...
