Ayoub’s Dear Things: Memories of a Long Journey

This story is about Ayoub. He lives in Leiden and is being trained to work in the service industry. When he is done, he wishes to open a small grocery store. He and his girlfriend Renée have a son called Kees. Full of energy and with a radiant smile, Ayoub talks about the current state of his life: a lot has changed since he fled from Afghanistan to the Netherlands about five years ago. In front of him, a number of items are spread out: letters with children’s drawings, a spencer with his name written on it, a couple of documents and boxer shorts with a little zipper. This is the story of Ayoub and the objects dear to him.
