Three gold coins
These fancy gold coins are from the Roman period. Coins are very useful historical sources, because often we can know exactly how old they are. One was minted by emperor Valentinianus between the years 364 and 375 AD. The other belongs to his younger Valens, who ruled the Roman empire for 3 years longer. The Böhl Collection actually used to have a third coin, mentioned in some old documents. Since several decades, however, it has mysteriously disappeared… We didn’t do it!
