Embroidery Tales from the Snow Country

Kogin embroidery was born out of the necessity for the people of the Tsugaru region of Northern Japan for warmer and longer lasting clothing. Kogin is deeply rooted within its region of origin and in the lifestyle of the people who created it. Over time it developed into a specialized and beautiful form of folk craft. Kogin has been defined as a one of a kind beauty, 'impossible to replicate anywhere else.'
