Molding

The wood is curvy. This technique of molding wood was pioneered by the American designers Charles and Ray Eames (1907–1978) and was also used in the famous Stool 60 designed by Finnish architect and designer Alvar Aalto (1898-1976). This technique compressed 7 pieces of 1mm wood under high temperature and high-pressure glue, after which they were molded together. The technique enhances the strength and load-bearing capacity of wood. As there were no factories that were able to produce the necessary curved wooden shapes at that time, butterfly stools could only be successfully manufactured 5 years after the stool’s invention.
