Twice Shrine
Since last summer, there has been a humble K-pop shrine in my room. In reality, it is currently just a Twice shrine, where I put all my favorite photos of my favorite K-pop girl band Twice on the wall. I think I speak for many when I say that we all searched for something to hold on to during the Covid pandemic, and for me that was Twice.
I fell in love with their music, video clips, and basically everything that had something to do with these nine women. Because of my fascination for Twice and the mental support they offered me by listening to their music, I went back to listening to K-pop in general. But I never forgot my roots as a K-pop fan, because so much in my room reminds me of it, including Ryan ! And of course I did a Bachelor’s in Korea Studies, so there is almost no escaping K-pop!
Now that I am a little older, I am better able to see the fun side of it again. K-pop can simply be very fun. Dancing along innocently to catchy dance moves, watching K-pop video clips with million dollar budgets while having a drink, or staring at photos and videos of beautiful K-pop idols. I allow myself these pleasures now that I am a little older and don’t care so much anymore. It is not called K-pop for nothing: popular Korean music. Twice might be the exception to how much I am involved with K-pop, but a different K-pop song in my Spotify playlist once in a while is not that bad, especially not during these difficult times.
