The religious worldview Vodun centres its belief on the existence of numerous gods and spirits. This bocio statue is a way to connect the spiritual and material worlds and to enable humans to contact and please the spirits. It is usually placed close to important personal locations in order to protect the owner and their family from evil spirits.
