• The Mirror in Il Fu Mattia Pascal by Luigi Pirandello

    story by Sabine van Veelen.

Mirrors are powerful objects: they force us to think about our identity and the way we see ourselves. They show us our reflection, which makes us reflect on ourselves. Most people look into mirrors everyday. In literature, theatre and film, the mirror as an object is explored in many ways. In Modernist literature, it can be seen as an emblematic object, as it displays different kinds of realities and almost stands as a metaphor on its own. This story aims to reveal the values and functions of the mirror in Pirandello's novel from 1904 Il Fu Mattia Pascal.
