The Light Blue Sticker

Look closely at this street sign. What do you notice?

Right, the caption! The light blue color of the sticker reveals that the current text was taped over the original caption. The Transvaal neighborhood in Leiden features four of these special street signs. A group of residents has provided them with a (temporary) new subscript. The Reitzstraat is one of these street names.

It is easy to get the urge to remove the sticker to see the original text underneath. It raises a lot of questions: what does the text say about the original namesake of the street, who is this ‘new’ Reitz, and why have residents taken up this initiative in the first place?
