These boxes belong to Ching Sze-Yin Cicy, a Hong Kong-born and Hong Kong-based jewelry artist and educator.[Cf]

Her box exhibits marine objects such as pearls and items that can be found on Hong Kong’s beaches, for example shells, pieces of mother of pearl and fish scales. All of them can potentially be converted from “trash” to “treasure”. As jewelry artist Ching Sze-Yin Cicy is used to recycle silver and other precious materials as part of her studio routine and is currently a co-investigator in a project on “upcycling” strategies in Hong Kong design.[Cf]

Her box frames natural, processed, semi-finished and complete items that give us an idea of how artists, craftsmen and common people can playfully engage with maritime matter. Let us have a closer look at some of the boxes.
