The shape of Hong Kong artist Tsang Tak-ping’s garlic lamp resembles a flower in bloom.

Since the invention of electricity, designers have engaged in the artful creation of lamp shades for light bulbs. Examples that have gained global fame include stained-glass shades crafted by the American artist Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848–1933) and his design studio. Many of the classic lamp shades by Tiffany engage in floral themes.See Fig 3 and a beautiful specimen in the MET The interest of contemporary designers in the blending of light and flower shapes has not ceased to this day. A series of lamp shades by Norwegian designer Kristine Five Melvær, for example, combines steel structures in various heights with colorful printed canvas bulbs and visible seams whose organic shapes resemble flower buds; the series is called “Bloom” (See fig 4)
