Animals on Pottery Sherds
Three pottery sherds from a vessel with distinct animal motifs. Black paint is used on clay with a smooth burnished surface. The sherds were excavated by Professor Sir Max Edgar Lucien Mallowan at Arpachiyah, Irag in the 1930s. It dates back to 6000 BCE to 5000 BCE, corresponding to the Halaf period. In 1934 the pottery sherds were acquired by the British Museum, where they are currently on display . The three pottery sherds originate from the same vessel with a calculated diameter of 6.5 inches and a width of 1.25inches.
