The base of this stela depicts a scene that is more commonly found on tomb walls: a funerary procession. For rich people in ancient Egypt, funerals were an elaborate affair, consisting of many rituals. They brought together friends and family of the deceased to give a sense of order at a time of sadness and loss for the community.
