Neo-Assyrian flask
This fine object is an alabaster flask decorated in Neo-Assyrian style. It depicts a winged protective deity. We can discern a small cuneiform inscription that reads ‘Shamash and Aya’: the sun-god and his consort. Stylistically, the decoration of the flask is kind of weird as the limbs of the deity seem out of proportion. Possibly, this is due to the shape and material of the object, which can be challenging to work with.
